My work at The Gift has been a very exhilarating experience for me so far. With any small business, all employees have that sentence in their job description which reads, “responsibilities included but not limited to or other duties as assigned," which in other words translates to, whatever it takes to get the job done for the firm. Over the last few weeks, we have had employees working on several projects in different cities, states and even on another continent. Some were even in all three over two days. As a small business in demand, we have to work closely together as much as a family does to keep everything working simultaneously. Being in charge of the firm’s operations, I charged myself to understand what everyone is doing as well as what the business needs are in order to keep the wheels on the bus running.
As the one in my personal family that keeps the wheels turning in our very busy household, this is not a hard thing for me to do. The key is everyone knows his or her role and to be sure to check with the Keeper if anything goes awry. But the “keeper” is not the end all and be all, nor even our leader. It’s the team.
A heart only beats if the blood runs through all the veins to the heart.
Sometimes, I find myself texting a team member when I know their route to work has an accident, or bringing in lunch when someone’s favorite team loses or bringing in pastries when team members had late nights of travel to make it all better for that early morning conference call.
This is what we do. This is what we, as a business family, or better yet, a TEAM does. Yes, collaboration is key but checking in is crucial.
Yes, we are each other’s keeper for TEAM GIFT.
